C is for Cookie

It's definitely a good thing that I've been too busy to blog lately. And it's all from good stuff. Not that I've been Mary Sunshine 100% of the time. I still feel homicidal rage during both my morning and evening commute on a daily basis. But mostly I've been busy with holiday fun and cheer. And I'll do a Happy Thoughts Recap blog soon.

But for today, let me dedicate this blog to Today's Happy Thought: Cookies.

I feel as though I am starting to come down with something. And I'm glad it's on a Friday afternoon when I will have plenty of time to rest and not spend one of my sick days. But I certainly do feel a little better, having eaten a delicious fresh oatmeal raisin cookie from Whole Foods.

I love cookies. A lot. I can have ice cream and chocolate and all manner of good treats in my house, but if I want a cookie and I don't have any, I will not have anything else. Cookies are the best. As Jessica at GFY said "'C is for Cookie'...I hear has been replaced by 'Cookies Are A Sometimes Food', which, I'm sorry, is bullshit because cookies are an ALWAYS food, they're just not a MASS QUANTITIES food."

Hooray for cookies. I will happily accept anyone who wants to bring me cookies tonight as I sit on my couch trying not to let this cold get any worse. I'm sure they will make me feel better.

...as if I don't have enough cookies in the house already, thanks to Cookie Baking at Sarah's last weekend. :)

Having Time To Post Is A Happy Thought

Thankfully, just because I don't have time to post every day, doesn't mean I don't have them every day. Catching up...

Todays' (and Yesterday's) Happy Thoughts
  • Had time to lay back with Kris and watch a movie Tuesday night. We chose the new version of Peter Pan from a couple years ago and it was delightful. A nice callback to the inspiration for this here blog, plus that movie makes Kris adorably happy.
  • Came in yesterday morning with the Wii for my boss. She was pretty happy about it. She's not a gushing kind of person but she did stop herself on the way out the door with it to sincerely say "thanks a million."
  • In doing things to help out around the office and even in the course of my usual work, I have noticed that I really have gained some skills from my old internship. Before I worked there, any new task would frighten me and I'd need constant monitoring. I learned how to just figure out or find out what I needed to know to get something done and then do it. It's a really good feeling to realize that you have that skill. What do they call that, so I can put it on my resume? Resourcefulness?
  • Having a Sifl & Olly song stuck in my head this morning, I discovered a wealth of clips on YouTube.
  • Grabbed a catalog for Gotham Writers' Workshop off the street today and it has me excited. They even offer gift certificates, which I hope to get for Christmas and use towards a class next year. Yay!
  • I have a very good night to look forward to. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow after it happens.

Bursting with Snacky Happiness

It's not that I didn't have any happy thought yesterday. It's just that I'm a busy girl and also that I worked through lunch for no good reason. So, positive result, I have a backlog of happy thoughts!

Today's Happy Thoughts
  • This weekend I got a chance to watch That Thing You Do with Kris. His life is resembling it a little lately, plus it's a great movie so it was a nice cozy thing to do.
  • Saturday we had a lovely lovey dovey morning on the couch.
  • Sunday we woke up to snow  everywhere.
  • We spent all of Sunday in South Jersey, engaged in holiday fun with his family. We put up their (fake) tree, we shopped, I baked cookies with his mom, we watched holiday movies. It was a tremendously great, fun, relaxing day.
  • Caught 3/4 of the Steeler game on Sunday night and despite being a crazy game full of turnovers, we won. 9-3 baby! Woo!
  • On the ride home and over the course of Sunday,  I thought up most of my Christmas gift ideas. The "thinking of" is the hardest part so now come the more fun parts.
  • I had a delicious Wawa sub to split over the past two days for lunch.
  • We voted on a great play to do next spring in my theater group and I might even be involved in it.
  • Went to my store last night and picked up a BUNCH of gifts which is also a load off my mind. And thanks to Employee Appreciation week, I got ridiculously fantastic deals.
  • This morning I became my boss's hero. She needs a Wii for her granddaughter and I have the hookup. Now, Kris's store will make a bunch of money, a good girl will get a great cool gift, and I score big points with my boss.
  • I had a chance to set up our (cardboard) Christmas tree in the office today and it got me thinking about other easy, fun ways to decorate the office.
  • I finally got the reservation made for the office Christmas party. HUGE load off my mind.
  • A lot of what I've been doing for her since I started here, is taking hand edits that she's made on hard copy and inputting them into the computer. It does take some skill, but it's certainly not taxing on the brain. My boss will be away the week before Christmas and she says I can do the editing she's been doing while she's gone. Yay a step up!

Happy Thoughts of the Weekend Ahead

Today's one of those kind of days that's not good or bad, it's just there, waiting to be over. So, I guess, most of the happy things are things I'm looking forward to, but that's OK, they still count.

Today's Happy Thoughts
  • Left over from yesterday, one of the guys in the office bought talking The Office pens for everyone so now we can hear goofy quips from Michael Scott. Bonus? Everyone in my office has enough sense not to overuse them and make them annoying!
  • I did not get to make cookies last night. My running around looking for a pastry blender made me too tired to bake when I got home. So instead I got my Christmas card list together. And I have over 5 dozen cards to send. Which equals a lot of people in my life that I love. Bonus? Kris is going on a mission today to find me a pastry blender and a Christmas light bulb tester. Such a knight in shining armor.
  • I got pizz-aid today! Now I can finally start my Christmas shopping! (Plus pay pittances like my rent and car payment.)
  • Tomorrow is the weekend and that means a big breakfast and sleeping in. Oh God, sleeping in. Mmmmmm.
  • Sunday we are going down to South Jersey to help Kris's parents with the tree. So much fun and holiday goodness. Yay!
  • Sunday night there is a Steeler game on national TV. Don't know if we'll make it back in time to watch the whole thing, but I can ti-faux it and catch it whenever.
I hope everybody has a weekend full of happy thoughts like this!

Good Music, Warm Train, and More Food

Today's Happy Thoughts:
  • At the last minute, ended up having dinner and drinks with my cousin last night and having a blast, being regaled with tales from his dad's recent second wedding.
  • Schocholautte ROCKED the house last night. I had a fantastic time hangin' out with Haley Jane and partying to the fine music which was greatly appreciated by the decent-sized crowd. I'm so proud of my man and I love when he's as happy as he was last night.
  • I stayed late at work last night so that in case I overslept this morning, which I was bound to do, I'd be covered. And then I got up and caught my usual train so, totally sweet!
  • The train broke down right after I got on it so I was late anyway. But they let us stay on the nice warm train and didn't make us get off and wait in the cold for the next train. I even caught a few zzzs and my ass was already covered for being late to work.
  • If all goes as planned, I am going to make some fantastic cookies tonight with a somewhat greater degree of difficulty than I have ever done before. Want one?
  • Oh yeah, and I just bought a sweet gorgeous cashmere sweater from Victoria's Secret for like 1/2 price. Can't wait till it get's here!

Food, Good Work, and Fun

It seems a lot of my happy thoughts revolve around food. Hmmm, well I do like to eat. I suppose that's sort of inane little statement, but it's true.

Today's Happy Thoughts
  • I spent most of last night on the couch with my boyfriend. Two great new episodes of Chuck and Heroes on the Ti-faux and then a little Super Mario Galaxy. It's weird, I haven't actively enjoyed a video game like this in a long time. But it's fun to play and I can actually relax and enjoy myself while playing it. Plus it makes Kris happy that I play a video game at all.
  • We made the most rockin' leftover turkey sandwich dinner last night with all the trimmings and it was the perfect dinner for the night.
  • A little while ago, I got an email from my boss, in reference to a big chunk of work we just sent in to the client. It said "Good going" That's an enthusiastic compliment from my boss :)
  • I get to go out to dinner tonight. Going to try out a little French bistro where I think I am going to hold the office Christmas party.
  • Most of all, tonight Schocholautte rocks the house in Brooklyn and yours truly will be there. I will probably be tired tomorrow, but I will have fun tonight. If you want to join me, let me know!

The Angst Party Is Over

One more Happy Thought for now. I used to have another Blogger blog. It was called Bitchfest: Welcome to the Angst Party. It was created years ago when I was stuck in an unhappy job and intended as a place to concentrate all my complaints so that I would not spread them elsewhere all over the internet.
I just deleted it. Bitchfest is no more. Who needs it? This is the era of You Can Fly.

The Anti-Kvetch

Today's Word of the Day on Dictionary.com is kvetch /KVECH/, adjective: to complain habitually. Irony amuses me. Which gives me another happy thought (see number 6 below). It also makes me happy to know I've created a completely unusual blog, one who's purpose is the opposite of the usual blog; not to kvetch, but to think happy thoughts.

I know it's early, but this would seem to be working. 24 hours of positive thinking, and despite this morning's commuters being as surly and rude as any other day, they didn't bother me a bit.

Today's Happy Thoughts
  • When I was making coffee this morning, the sunrise was beautiful. Nice to see the sun for the first time in a few days. And the coffee, a new blend I'm trying, was delicious.
  • I woke up on time, allowing me to not rush and look great today!
  • Got another platinum medal on Big Brain Academy on the train this morning.
  • The Steelers won last night!
  • As I walked to work, I put my iPod on random. It's currently loaded with my Christmas music. It picked a couple of the best songs to make me smile and walk into work in a good mood.
  • I just remembered this shirt which always makes me smile as do this one, this one, and this one. Any or all of these would make excellent Christmas gifts. In girlie, size M. Or, you know, for other people. Glarkware in general makes me happy.

Think of a Wonderful Thought

Peter Pan taught us that with one happy thought and a little fairy dust, we can fly.

I have been a negative person, but I never realized how much. The other day, I had some crap happen to me and I was so focused on it, I completely forgot some wonderful things that happened. It made me realize that I do not focus on the positive in life. And that I need to. So I started today. And then I had an idea.

What if I had a blog, where I
post my happy thoughts? It would help me to keep track of them, give me a place to go with them, remind me of them, and be a wonderful way for me to cheer myself up when I'm down.

Why do you care? Well, most likely, if you're reading this, you're like me and some of the things that make me happy, make you happy too. And some of those happy things, you may not have even known about, so you might learn a thing of two.

So welcome to You Can Fly. A place for happy thoughts. Feel free to let mine lift you up and post your own happy thoughts in the comments.

Today's Happy Thoughts
  • I'm getting entered in the bulk gift card contest at the store, because my office needs to buy gift cards in bulk. I could win a trip!
  • I got another platinum medal in Big Brain Academy on the train ride home.
  • I got to work with Doug, probably my favorite cafe co-worker, and he shared his Wawa iced tea with me. Mmmm, delicious!
  • I got a wicked AWESOME grilled cheese with bacon, french fries, and a coke for lunch, for only $6! In Manhattan!
  • I had an idea for a cool blog.
It's been a good day. Let's have many more to follow.
